How this calculator works
Your FIRE number is your yearly spending divided by a safe withdrawal rate. At 4%, that's 25× your spending. Your portfolio grows each month by the real (after-inflation) return plus your new investment, so all figures stay in today's dollars.
Coast FIRE is the amount that, left alone with no more contributions, grows into your FIRE number by your chosen age. Once you pass it, you only need to earn enough to cover your bills.
